About Me

A Misguided Marine

December 24, 2004
After a couple of months of preparation and planning I proposed to Jackie tonight. She said Yes! That was really all I wanted for Christmas. I had tried to make it the perfect night. We went to a really nice dinner downtown at the Palace restaurant, then we walked Canyon Road. The displays there kind of sucked, and there wasn't much caroling. So we drove around Santa Fe to look at Christmas lights. There wasn't much to see, so we came home. By the time we got home Jackie was a little car sick. We each opened a present by the tree. We talked for a minute, then I got up and turned all of the lights off except the lights on the Christmas tree. I gave her a big hug and made a joke about having another present, then I got down on one knee and told her how special she was to me, how much I loved her, and ho I wanted her to be in my life forever. Then I asked her If she would Marry me, and she sad yes.
She got down on her knees and hugged me and we talked for a few more minutes. It was very nice, and made it the best Christmas ever for both her and I. I asked her if she wanted to call her Mom and she said she didn't know if her mom would be up, I told her I had called her parents the day before to ask permission, and her Mom would be up waiting. So she called her Mom, and I text.ed all of my friends and family. We opened our presents to each other in the morning, and Jackie finished up her stained glass cross Christmas ornament on the way to Albuquerque. We had lunch and opened presents with my family, then we went over to her brother.s house and traded gifts with her family. We stopped by Tony's house and got to see everyone again, Tom and Danni were in town, Bob, Don, Tony, and Ray and Shelly, and Paul, Lindy and her BF, and several others. They eventually decided to go play poker at Don's house. Jackie and I went down to see Andi and Taya. We swapped gifts and chatted for a little while, then headed back up to Santa Fe and hit the sack at the end of a long day.
On Sunday, we went to Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Michaels and Sam's. We got lots of wrapping paper and gift boxes for next to nothing. We also got a few lights, and decorative trees for outside. We wanted to make sure we took advantage of the 70% off sales so we would be ready for next year.
So this week we are trying to catch up. I have 4 floating Holidays this week and Jackie is going to take some time off too. We are going to visit with Tom and Danni, and Javier, a friend of Jackie's from High School. We are also going to have dinner with Pete and Chandra sometime this week. And New years will be another Party at Casa Rigsby y Vanilla(Josh's house, with Josh Linda and Seli.)

There used to be a lot more about the last 5 years here. It probably won't come back. I am opening up a new chapter in my life, and decided it was time for a new start here. I reread a lot of what was here and realized there were things I didn't want to remember or share, and there were things that weren't really fair to other people on my site.
Life goes on.

My Favorite fortune cookie fortune... The best times of your life have not yet been lived.

Overview

(Old Stuff)

I was in the US Marines Corps for 6 years, and a Sgt. for the last two. I spent my first year in Iwakuni, Japan, and the remaining time in San Diego. I picked up the nickname Misguided from the humorous meaning of USMC, Uncle Sams Misguided Children, before I joined the Corps, and have used it as an alias for many years now.

I started in the Corps as a 1371, Combat Engineer. After 4 years I lateral moved to 4066, Small Computer Systems Specialist. I found out that the Pogue (Computer) side of the Marine Corps can be as demanding as the Grunt side. But the skills you get as a System Administrator carry well in to the Civilian world, while Minefield emplacement does not.

I Enlisted in the Marines from Albuquerque NM, In '91. And returned home on Nov 12th 1997, on Terminal Leave, which I had to Request Mast to the Bn Commander to get. Yes after a lot of fun, and a LOT of stress, I hung up my Chevrons and returned to the rigors of civilian life. Then I hung a plaque on the wall of my office to remind me where I came from. I did get out, but The Corps will always be a part of me. And, I am more than ready to start enjoying those freedoms I've spent the past 6 years defending. These pages are little bits and pieces I have collected while in the Corps, and they are my own opinion, in no way are they to represent official beliefs or statements from the USMC.
